Labial palpi very long, recurved, second joint with rough projecting hairscales beneath diminishing anteriorly or not continued to apex, terminal joint somewhat shorter than second, slender, acute. Maxillary palpi very short, filiform, appressed to tongue. Posterior tibiae rough-haired above. Forewings with 1b furcate, 2 from 4/5, 3 from angle, 7 and 8 stalked, 7 to apex, 11 from middle. Hindwings 1, trapezoidal, apex tolerably pointed, termen sinuate, cilia 4/5; 3 and 4 connate or short-stalked, 5 hardly approximated, 6 and 7 stalked.
Type semifusca Meyr.; as stated above, insignis Meyr. (which I now possess from Brisbane) is also referable here.

He [Meyrick] also establishes the genus Iulactis with a new type species semifusca (which I possess) as the type, to also include insignis Meyr. But in my opinion these last two species are Xyloryctinae, and should be referred to the genus Plectophila Meyr. or at least very near it. Vein 2 of the forewings in them arises from 2/3 or ¾. (Turner, 1919).

Type-species: Iulactis semifusca Meyrick, 1918, ibid. 2: 145, by original designation.

Remarks: The specimens mistakenly labelled Iulactis semifusca in the ANIC collection are in fact Xylorycta ceratospila, a fact that Patrick Strutzenberger has recently confirmed by photographing the types at the BMNH. I am fairly certain that X. ceratospila probably does not belong in Xylorycta, but is another species of Iulactis. However, this speculation needs to be confirmed by barcoding results.  There is a remote possibility that X. ceratospila and I. semifusca are identical.

Specimens labelled Plectophila sp. ANIC 17 of the BOLD website, following the ANIC collection order, are in fact Iulactis semifusca: http://www.boldsystems.org/views/taxbrowser.php?taxid=365435 .

The male genitalia of Plectophila sp. ANIC 15, a species close to Iulactis semifusca, resemble other species of Plectophila and it is likely that the genus Iulactis needs to be properly examined and revised, and its relationship to Plectophila clarified.

Len Willan's image mistakenly labelled Iulactis semifusca on the ANIC Australian Moths Online website, http://www1.ala.org.au/gallery2/v/Xyloryctidae/Iulactissemifusca/ ,  is in fact identical with another unnamed species of Plectophila, identified on the BOLD website as Plectophila sp. ANIC 19: http://www.boldsystems.org/views/taxbrowser.php?taxid=365437 .
