Hyponomeuta ? viduata is a good species which may be provisionally referred to the genus Xylorycta. Besides the type there are three examples in the National Museum, all imperfect and without palpi. (Localities: Melbourne and Kewell, Vic.) (Turner, 1912).

Food plants:
Flight period: June.
Distribution: Australian Capital Territory, Victoria.

Remarks: The evidence of the male genitalia suggests this species belongs in the same group as Scieropepla Meyrick. In particular the ‘toothed’ aedeagus resembles S. polyxesta; and the claspers, uncus and gnathos and saccus share superficial similarities with S. trinervis.

Male genitalia also resemble those of  Procometis hylonoma. Genetic analysis will be necessary to properly place this species.
